Description
The Virginia Pilot's Association provides ocean-going vessels with navigation services between the Chesapeake Bay entrance and the vessel's final destination within the Hampton Roads area. This ship, no longer in use, is shown tied up at a pier on the Elizabeth River, near the old US Coast & Geodetic Survey base. Presently, the Pilots use small boats (like the one shown here near the Ship's stern) operating from Lynnhaven Inlet in Virginia Beach, a location much closer to the Bay entrance.
