Description
This is the marine railway at Urk, a small but busy village on the IJsselmeer in the Netherlands. The town, as it was early in the 19th century, is featured in author Jan de Hartog's "Call of the Sea". The view I show you now is from our visit in the Spring of 2010. The boat on the far left bears a popular Dutch boat name : literally "Never Thought" but boat owners who use this name mean "Never thought I'd ever have anything like this". For my wife and me, we never thought we'd ever have as nice a trip as this!
