The Parade of Sail takes place every few years in the busy harbor of Norfolk, Virginia. This scene is from the 2006 Parade of Sail. My wife and I anchored our own boat at the mouth of the Lafayette River, where we could observe the parade moving up the Elizabeth River towards Norfolk. I took plenty of photographs and sketches, but the contrast in size between the small vessel trying to overtake the larger one made this scene by far the most interesting. The larger vessel is from Brazil, and if you look close you can see for yourself that the smaller one is from California.
Having been introduced to landscapes and seascapes by his artist mother, and with influence from his wife with a background in graphic arts, Vic Delnore has developed his own interpretations of landscapes, abstracts, and artistic scenes in graphite, pen and ink, oil, water media, and charcoal. His initial art training was in composition and perspective in The Hague, The Netherlands, followed by instruction in story illustration, pen-and-ink graphics at RPI, figure drawing and calligraphy at MIT/Harvard and ODU, and under nationally known instructors in watercolor and related media.
